A Memorial Day sale on back issues
Gone but not forgotten
Republican Coffee Co., one of a rash of new anti-woke coffee brands that have recently appeared for some reason, advertises a special Memorial Day blend called The Liberator. “This isn’t just coffee; it’s a statement,” its presumably A.I.-written blurb explains. For us at The Drift, The Liberator means something different: the monthly socialist magazine published from 1918 to 1924 after its predecessor, The Masses, got shut down for discouraging military enlistment during World War I. We’ve always sought to commemorate the legacy of these great magazines; our covers riff on their artwork, and we repurpose their extraordinary cartoon archives — now in the public domain — in our pages.
This Memorial Day season, starting today, you can help us keep the tradition of independent left-wing publishing alive by purchasing any Drift back issue — on sale, through next week, for $5 instead of the usual $20 (plus shipping). Our Liberator, we think you’ll find, also makes a statement.
